[Askalibrarianqa] Tally of votes for April 08 Exemplary Chats

I agree after one year it is fine to award again. Would not like to see
the same person winning month after month, and I think that is what we
want to avoid.
Also in the same month I don't think we want to award two to one
person, give the others a chance.

Chats

I think we are looking for exemplary chats as examples for others to
draw inspiration and instruction from. It shouldn't matter who created
the chat, just the quality of the chat itself. After a year, a person
should be eligible again. A year wait is reasonable to spread the award
around, but to be disqualified forever after winning once is a bit
harsh. One question, if a person won for a detailed chat, are they
barred from winning a brief chat?

Thanks

communications to and from city officials are subject to public

Hi Everyone,

I'm sorry to be slow tallying the votes for Exemplary Chats for April
08.

A couple of issues: One I had trouble separating the two chats
nominated for Louis Rosen for a Brief Exemplary Chat, and second, two
librarians who won Exemplary chats last year just won the distinction
again.

I know we had decided at one point to not have repeat winners, but
perhaps we could make the ruling for one year's time period.

What are your thoughts on this? Let me and Diana know before we
publish the winners.

Thanks,

Pat

Brief Exemplary Chat

Louis Rosen Louis quickly found a book that this student could use. He
suggested an alternative search term when the student's original query
received no hits and explained the rationale. 4/27

Detailed Exemplary Chat

Ellen B. Ellen used her considerable experience with patent research to
help this customer understand the process and how its changed since more
of the records have been digitized. She also offered contact information
for other patent professionals in case the customer wanted to know more.

Teaching Exemplary Chat

Susan Livingston Susan did an excellent job of chatting with the
student about a research topic for a Communications paper. Susan
addressed the student's real issue which was to think of keywords that
would be useful in searching the databases for journal articles on the
topic.
