Pam makes an excellent point.

I usually check the list of All Winners to make sure I am not nominating
someone who has won in the last year, but to clarify I think we did say
that they could win in a different category just not for a year. So if
a person wins a brief category in August, they would still be eligible
to win the detailed category in December, but not either of those
categories for another whole year after.

Am I correct on this?

Hello,

I pull up my assigned day and then open all the chats in separate tabs
all at once. If I don't, the page tends to expire when I try to scroll
through the results list after leaving it open for a while. Then I have
to log back in, which is a bit annoying.

I weed out the no shows and disconnects. After that, I get down to the
nitty gritty. Even though I know they'd be awesome, I tend to not read
the Librarians I know who've been nominated a few times before in an
effort to save myself time. I copy and paste the ones I like into a
word document. I go through all the chats like this. Then I save them,
let them sit for a day or two and then go back and read through the Word
document again. I sit on it a couple days because when I look at them
again I find myself wondering why I saved this one or that one. ;-)

Everyone has their own way.

Thanks,

Pammy

Hi Everyone,

I've prepared a readings schedule including our new members of the QA
Workgroup. I have not included Laurie Hime from Miami Dade College as
she is on session break and will be back in the fall.

Again, we agreed to read 50 chats from our day's assignment although
many of us read more if needed. We try and nominate one chat transcript
in each category and if possible find two of the criteria in those
chats. Sometimes, that is not possible, or we may find two in one
category.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

I propose that we continue to trade tips on how we read Chats and decide
which ones to nominate.

A couple of techniques I use in reading Chat Transcripts are (1) copy
and paste several Chat Transcripts into a Word document that look
promising, making notes on them concerning good points like "good
reference interview," "good interaction with patron,' etc. and (2)
check the websites shown to the patron or student to see if they are
valid links with useful information. I usually then go back to my Word
document and make choices through a second read through.

Pat
