[Askalibrarianqa] Deadline, etc.

Hi everyone,
The Hall of Fame idea sounds great. I would like to see the minimum of
wins raised from 3 to 5 however. 3 just seems kind of low to me. (Or
if 3 is the number everyone wants to stick with-- maybe have it that if
someone eventually wins in EVERY category, they are inducted. I think
this shows their versatility and overall expertise as a chatter.)
I tend to agree with those who think the Hall of Famers should be
eligible to continue winning. It's always a nice incentive to have your
work recognized. Retiring the person from winning seems more like a
punishment than a reward.
There was mention that chats by Hall of Famers could still be
highlighted somehow. For me, that takes away the prestige of the actual
winning chats. Plus we don't want to overload people with too much
information.
I think only being able to win a specific category once a year is
sufficient enough to keep someone from dominating the awards. Thus, it
would be okay for the Hall of Fame inductees to continue competing.
Courtney

Diana and Group,
I still feel that if someone is declared a Hall of Fame winner or
virtual expert then that is the ultimate recognition. Their exemplary
chats could still be highlighted with the winners and even used in TGIF
tips or training, but I don't feel they should keep competing and
probably winning. Clearly they have developed an expertise that would
remain constant. Why not ask a future candidate what they think. This
is just my opinion. Would like to hear from the others. Not sure I
understand why Hall of Famers need to keep competing.
Joyce
I like the idea of a Fall of Fame after 3 wins. But, I don't think they
should be taken out of the pool for the future. This is my opinion
though- feel free to differ.
Right now- we have 1 person - Susan Livingston who has won 3+ awards and
several people with two: Courtney Moore, Ellen Book, Kristen Faulkner,
Laura Cifelli and Louis Rosen. So, we have the possibility of adding
people to the Hall of Fame this year.
Diana

Thanks Pat. Yes, this is what we agreed to do but I was not sure if
everyone understood. I think that it would be good to recognize the
experts and then give some others a chance to develop. What do the
others think?

Hi Joyce,
I've been looking over your Hall of Fame suggestions.
Isn't this what we basically do now? I thought we were okay with
librarians winning in more than one category for one year.
1. One librarian can win an Exemplary chat in One category during One
year. However, that same librarian may be nominated and may win an
Exemplary Award in another category during the year.
I think recognition after 3 wins would be good! I don't think the
librariansshould be taken out of the pool however for future wins. Some
librarians excel in certain areas and count on doing well in their area
of expertise.
Any comment?
Pat

Pat, Diana, and QA team:
Here is a proposal for a Hall of Fame category. Please feel free to
revise, delete, qualify, etc.
1. One librarian can win an Exemplary chat in One category during One
year. However, that same librarian may be nominated and may win an
Exemplary Award in another category during the year.
(Example: If Renee should win a Teaching Award for 2009, then she could
not win another teaching award this year. However, she could still be
nominated and win a detailed or brief chat this year whether or not she
is servicing the desk for Alachua County or AAL she would be counted as
one person. I think that we should limit it to the current year only.
So If Renee should be nominated for a Teaching Award in 2010, then she
would be eligible to win that award.
2. After a person has won three chats from any number of years, they
will be inducted in the Exemplary Chat Hall of Fame. After this honor,
they would no longer be eligible for the monthly nominations, but could
still have an exemplary chat highlighted for the group.
(Perhaps, Diana could award the Hall of Fame winners in some manner.)
Ideas anyone?

I think if she is nominated in different categories, we're okay.
I like the Hall of Fame, too! We have some really expert librarians who
have a lot of experience and know how. Susan Smith is one.

So the question is, with Renee-since she wears two AAL "hats" and
answers chats as an AAL intern and for the Alachua County Library
District, if she wins an award as a library staffer in one month, and
then gets nominated again in another month as an intern is she still
eligible? Do we make the distinction as if she is two different people?
This is why I am confused.
I love the idea of a "Hall of Fame" too Joyce! :-)

Hi Everyone,
Yes, Pat, that is my recollection that a person can be nominated in a
different category from one they previously won. Not sure about Cindy's
email regarding Renee. Is the previous winner Renee the same Renee who
is listed as a AAL intern?
I like Cindy's idea about a special recognition for repeated winners.
Perhaps an Exemplary Chat Hall of Fame after winning in all categories.

Hi Everyone,
That was my understanding: people could be nominated in a different
category. Joyce, Diana, isn't that what we had decided? Also, I'm not
sure about Renee. She is an AAL intern, but I don't see where that would
disqualify her.
We do need the list of all who have won and in which category.

I thought it was decided that a person could be nominated in the same

Just for clarification... it was my understanding that a nominee could
not be eligible for the same nomination more than once a year. Susan
Smith is being nominated twice this month in the brief category and she
won it in October 2008.
Exemplary Brief Chat
October 2008

Also does it pose a similar issue for Renee, if she works as an AAL
intern on the side, or no? Is that completely separate from her duties
as a library district staffer?
Exemplary Detailed Chat

If not, then she would still be eligible. She is also nominated twice
this month for teaching chats.

Hi Everyone,
Let's try for July 20 to have our nominations in for May.
George brought up the question of how to access the transcripts to
read.
Here are some directions:
1. Log into Toolbox
2. Log into AskALibrarian
3. Be sure and check all boxes so you will see the transcripts for
both academic and collaborative
4. Click on Reports at the top
5. Under Departments click on Chat Transcripts
6. Hold your control key down to check academic, collaborative
7. Set your date choosing the bottom circle and
8. for the top and bottom set on your date to read
9. Then click View Report
You should get the chats for your day. You can click on the hot links to
see the transcripts. You will need the name of the librarian, the
incident number, and the type of chat plus the length of the chat if you
choose one to nominate. Then you go to Toolbox, login, and hover your
mouse over Exemplary Reference Awars. Then choose Nominate Transcript.
I hope all of this makes sense!
Pat
