Biography:

Meredith Semones has been an Associate university librarian at the
University of Central Florida Libraries for fourteen years. Since 2002
Meredith has been Coordinator of Ask A Librarian Reference Service at
UCF Libraries. During her tenure UCF's online chat service has seen
tremendous growth. A fabulous team of ten librarians and two Senior LTAs
staff the local chat and telephone reference service for 60 hours per
week and staff 11 hours of chat for Florida ASK a Librarian Academic
Desk. UCF Ask A Librarian joined the Academic Desk of Florida ASK a
Librarian in July 2008, we had been a member of the Association of
Southeast Research Libraries (ASERL) collaborative chat which disbanded
in May 2008. At FLA in May '09, Meredith and a UCF colleague, Aysegul
Kapucu, gave a presentation entitled "Chat-based Reference: Can IM and
Commercial Systems Co-exist?" Meredith received her MLS from the
University of Maryland in 1972. She has had previous experience in both
special and academic libraries. Meredith and her husband Bob recently
celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary; they have two grown children
and hope someday to be grandparents. Meredith and Bob enjoy walking in
their neighborhood, reading, traveling and Meredith enjoys Bob's
gardening, especially his lovely roses.
