CFALL was honored to have Mike Hayes, of the law firm of Hill Ward
Henderson, talk at our annual meeting on the challenges of attorneys in
today's legal climate and how law librarians can help them become better
advocates for their clients. Mr. Hayes cited the ever-growing and
overwhelming volume of law available to attorneys, the rise of electronic
resources, the growing availability of briefs as tools, the greater
importance of communication and persuasion in the practice of law, and the
increased pressure on time in the court system, all as important elements in
modern law that must be addressed. He suggested that law librarians
understand these challenges and take an active role in driving these
resources to their firms and attorneys. Mr. Hayes' enlightening anecdotes
and self-effacing humor made his presentation very entertaining and
worthwhile. He left us with the suggested reading list pasted below.
