Hello,
We would like to bring you up to date with the implementation for
barcode address labels and scanning for the Statewide Delivery Service.
We began testing barcoded address labels for Statewide Delivery bags in
the Ft. Myers region in December and in all other Delivery libraries in
January. For more information on the new labels, including FAQs, visit
www.tblc.org/delivery.
The Delivery vendor, Velocity Express, ran into a few snags in its
implementation in the Ft. Myers region. Because of this setback, the
vendor decided to provide new scanners to the drivers, and to retrain
the drivers on their use and on the overall procedure. With this new
training, we are moving forward with our plan to implement the new
tracking system at all Florida libraries.
Velocity Express has implemented scanning in the Ft. Myers region and
will start scanning in the Tampa hub this week. We foresee Velocity's
drivers successfully scanning bags in most of the state by summer and
the whole state by fall at the latest.
In the meantime, please continue to use the new labels, as it's
necessary for everyone in the state to use the barcoded labels during
this testing phase. We will notify each library individually to inform
them when the drivers will begin scanning in their library. We will
include detailed instructions at that time.
We cannot thank you enough for your patience and feedback as we have
worked to enhance the Statewide Delivery system. We encourage you to
direct all comments and suggestions to deliver at tblc.org or (800)
622-8252.
General Delivery announcements:
With the implementation of the barcodes, we have received a lot of
feedback and are trying to adjust the service accordingly. With this in
mind, please be helpful to the system by:
* Remembering to double check the address label and the
library to which you are sending materials. We have many libraries in
Florida with similar names, and we would like to minimize the number of
items sent to the wrong library.
* Avoiding placing tape on the outside of the Delivery bag.
If the address box is too loose to hold a label, please discard the bag.
The tape makes the bag unusable for future deliveries.
Thanks again for your hard work and dedication to the Delivery service.
Joyce
