iBorrow Users,

Apologies for cross posting, and if you never use iBorrow, feel free to
delete this message.

We have had reports of cryptic error messages for much of Wednesday
afternoon and Thursday morning. Most of them had the term "NCIP" in
them or the words "unable to validate patron". At first we thought
you'd all gotten together and cooked up new ways to break the system,
just to see if we were paying attention. But it turns out that most of
the error messages were caused by failures in the new gateway server.
Not "Gateway" in the sense of "comes in a cow box" but "gateway" in the
sense of a server that creates a connecting path between the
URSA/iBorrow server and your local servers.

The problem yesterday was two hung processes. Today the "maps were not
being invoked". ("Aha! Just as I thought!," I hear you say.) Then end
result was a lot of disappointed patrons, several frustrated library
staff, and an URSA server with severe feelings of isolation.

SirsiDynix feels they have corrected the problem and can keep it from
happening again. We certainly hope so.

To the extent that you can, please try to complete the tasks that failed
for you yesterday and this morning. (Thursday morning). If you still
run into problems, send the data to us, and we will let SD know that all
is not yet copacetic.
