[iBorrow] Brother, can you spare a dime novel?

Do you want those of us still using Alleycat to respond to this request - or just wait until we're part of the iBorrow clan?

IBorrow users,

We all know that our borrowers are going to request what they want when they want it through any point of access they can reach. So, there's no point in giving them a list of what other libraries won't loan.

But ILL staff can be, and often are, more discriminating.

If you have done any work with the Search Item feature in Mediated Borrowing, you know that it gives you a list of the participants who have an available copy 'right now', and that you can choose which one is your 'preferred lender'. If you were trying to find a lender for a CD that one of your patrons wanted, and you had a list of what was 'off limits' at each potential lender, you could select a preferred lender with a certain amount of confidence. Or, you might look at the list and say, "Time to visit OCLC".

So, we'd like you to reply to this Email and describe-in the proverbial nutshell-what your library will not lend via iBorrow.

Please note that I'm sending this out as though I were the IBorrow discussion list, so your reply will go to the whole list, not just to "Al Carlson". So, watch your language. We will also take the results and post them to Beth's Blog.

("But, wait a minute" I hear some of you say. "Didn't we send you that information prior to going live with iBorrow? Don't you already have it?"

The answer is "Yes, but not in any form that can be easily shared", We sliced and diced all the data everyone sent us and put it in a form that the iBorrow Agency Setup tables could digest. Reversing that process would be ugly, at best. One or two sentences from you would be far preferable.)
