[iBorrow] FW: New Fill Loan display--Saturday Update

IBorrow users,

This email is mainly for Sunline staff. Until PALS comes online,
Sunline is the only participating system that does not have centralized
ILL.

I told you in my original email on this weekend's new build that iBorrow
does not read minds. Or lips.

However, it looks as though it does read barcodes and ISBN's when it
can.

Holly Harvey at SirsiDynix sent the two update messages below with their
included screen shots. (Depending on your Email client and your
library's email security system, you may not be able to see the screen
shots, so I'll translate them at the end of this message.)

If you highlight Gone with the Wind in the list of requests, but scan a
barcode attached to Green Eggs and Ham, iBorrow will try to keep you out
of trouble.

It will send the barcode you scanned to the Sunline server along with
the command, "Look up this barcode and send me the ISBN of the bib
record it is attached to."

If the ISBN of the bib record matches the ISBN in the request, it Fills
the request, and on you go.

If the ISBN that comes back does not match, it displays the Force
Request Fill message below.

If you see that message and realize you have scanned the wrong barcode,
just click on Cancel, and no one will ever know.

If you have exactly the book you want to fill the request you
highlighted, click OK, and iBorrow will mutter, "OK. If you say so...."
and make it so.

But what if there is no ISBN in the request?

That'll make ISBN matching a little bit tough, won't it.

If that happens, you will see the Verify Request Fill message
immediately below.

IBorrow is saying, "I have no way of telling whether you scanned the
right item, because I can't do an ISBN match. Tell me you're sure, and
I'll believe you."

Now, for those of you with high security or text-only Email clients...

The Force Request Fill message will say Force Request Fill at the top
and will say:

The bibliographic information for this barcode does not match the
request.

Click OK to use this item to fill the request.

The Verify Request Fill message will say Verify Request Fill at the top
and will say:

Verify that this item matches the requested item for:

Gone with the Wind (or whatever title you have highlighted.)

Questions?

Call me.

This is the screen that comes up when there isn't an ISBN associated
with the request:

The one I sent earlier is used in the scenario that the system detects
that the bib records are different.

Hi Al,

When you scan a barcode in Fill loan, the system will try to make sure
it matches the bib for the request. If it cannot be sure of the match,
the user will be prompted to verify that the barcode should be used to
fill the selected request. When there is no ISBN the verification will
come up every time because NCIP can't sort it out on its own without the
ISBN.

Here's what the screen will look like:

IBorrow Users,

I should have put this out earlier this week. My apologies.

We'll be getting a new build this weekend. It will be loaded Friday
evening about 5:30 our time.

It fixes a couple of flaws that the previous build revealed, and it adds
a new feature.

This email is about that new feature.

Are you sitting down?

When you do Fill Loan in the new build, you will see the list of
requests.

You will no longer be working in an empty box and wondering what will
come up when you scan a barcode.

You asked for this many times, way back when we launched iBorrow. Now
you've got it.

This is a mixed blessing, so pay attention here.

(1) When you open Fill Loan in the URSA client, you will see ALL of the
requests that iBorrow has sent to Sunline, NOT just the ones that you
are filling from your library's collection.

This is because iBorrow does not know which Sunline library will fill
its request. So, don't panic and think that you-personally-are
responsible for filling every request there.

(2) BE CAREFUL when you scan a barcode!! You will have to highlight
the title whose barcode you are scanning. URSA doesn't read minds. It
doesn't even read lips. If you highlight "Gone with the Wind" while you
are scanning the barcode on "Green Eggs and Ham", URSA will think you
have just filled the request for "Gone with the Wind".

And you are going to say, "Oops!"

Or possibly some other word.

If you have questions, call Matt or me. And have fun with the new
feature.
