Well, after the last meeting we did not really have an idea for the next
meeting and we were going to wait and see what came to us. And although I
have not had a big flash of insight, I do have an idea that has been in my
mind for a little while and is growing with some discussions that are
occuring on our campus.

At USF there is starting to be some talk and committees formed about
revising the general education requirements and some discussion about a
quality education program geared towards upper level students. Several of
the librarians here in Tampa went to some of the brainstorming sessions and
we talked up info lit getting that idea into the mix.

These ideas and other I have been having have started me to do something
about when do we need to teach students about the various concepts of info
lit. Do we need to throw all the concpets at them when we see them as
freshman? Or is it better to wait and spread the concepts out, i.e
evaluation should wait until they have spent sometime becoming comfortable
with searching. At what stage does a student/person need to be skilled with
one of the info lit standards.

My other thought is that this might be a perfect place for our various
institutions to work together as we usher students through life-long
learning. Maybe we can coordinate a study to see how students do research
at various levels and how the libraries can insert info lit concepts at the
right time to aid their research development or some such thing.

I am not sure where any of these thoughts are leading, but I did think that
they might be a good jumping off place to start a discussion as well as a
place that maybe we can all work towards some of the same goals.

What does everyone think? Do we want to schedule a time again soon when we
can meet as a group? (I for one have not been out to lunch for awhile).
