Hi Mark,
=20
I think this is a good idea. I have been struggling with which concepts =
and tools to teach at which level. I don't want to repeat with upper =
level classes and many of the students that come to the library get 2 or =
even three information literacy sessions that not only bore them, but =
also don't necessarily go into depth. I'd like to break things up, but =
we are usually told to "tell them everything". A discussion that =
combines this with say specific, goals and objectives might be helpful.
=20
I'm very interested-

Subject: [infolit] Idea for next meeting discussion
Well, after the last meeting we did not really have an idea for the next =
meeting and we were going to wait and see what came to us. And although =
I have not had a big flash of insight, I do have an idea that has been =
in my mind for a little while and is growing with some discussions that =
are occuring on our campus.
At USF there is starting to be some talk and committees formed about =
revising the general education requirements and some discussion about a =
quality education program geared towards upper level students. Several =
of the librarians here in Tampa went to some of the brainstorming =
sessions and we talked up info lit getting that idea into the mix. =20
These ideas and other I have been having have started me to do something =
about when do we need to teach students about the various concepts of =
info lit. Do we need to throw all the concpets at them when we see them =
as freshman? Or is it better to wait and spread the concepts out, i.e =
evaluation should wait until they have spent sometime becoming =
comfortable with searching. At what stage does a student/person need to =
be skilled with one of the info lit standards.
My other thought is that this might be a perfect place for our various =
institutions to work together as we usher students through life-long =
learning. Maybe we can coordinate a study to see how students do =
research at various levels and how the libraries can insert info lit =
concepts at the right time to aid their research development or some =
such thing.
I am not sure where any of these thoughts are leading, but I did think =
that they might be a good jumping off place to start a discussion as =
well as a place that maybe we can all work towards some of the same =
goals.
What does everyone think? Do we want to schedule a time again soon when =
we can meet as a group? (I for one have not been out to lunch for =
awhile).
