At our last Information Literacy SIG group meeting Susan Ariew & Drew Smith volunteered to present an information literacy workshop for us. After much planning and calendar checking the date and details have been determined, and Jim Carey has also volunteered to present with Susan. Since this is more formal than our usual sharing meetings we're using TBLC's workshop registration system to both promote the workshops and handle the details.

We're hoping you'll be able to join us for the entire day, but it's possible to attend just the morning or afternoon session, with or without lunch. We ate at the Brickyard the last time we met at USF Tampa. If you can only attend the afternoon session we hope you'll be able to join us for lunch first. RSVP lunch to Susan Ariew, sariew at cas.usf.edu <mailto:sariew at cas.usf.edu> by November 23rd. Also, if you're attending only in the morning, hope you can lunch with us before going back to work.

***please bring 30 copies of your info lit assessment tools, and we'll use them during the morning group discussions.

Workshop details are listed below. REGISTERATION info should be posted on TBLC's training website soon, register online, attendance is limited to thirty librarians.

Hope to see you December 2nd.

If It's Worth Teaching It, It's Worth Finding Out Whether They Learned It!-- Assessment Tools and Techniques for Library Instruction

This active learning workshop will cover a variety of issues regarding assessment of library instruction. It includes information about:

· how instructional design fits into assessment

· how teacher-librarians determine what type of assessments

are right for their program or department

· how to use assessment to inform decisions about instruction

· how to customize assessment tools to fit learning objectives

· how assessment might fit generally into the information

           literacy landscape

Cutting through jargon and buzzwords, this workshop will give participants immediate experience with a variety of assessments to improve their instruction on the fly. Working in small groups, participants will evaluate various assessment techniques and tools and discuss with the larger group what is likely to work best in various library instruction settings.
