[ipac] Antivirus software on HIP server

Well, funny you should ask. We have McAfee asap loaded on all PCs and most
of our servers. Since the HIP server is in the DMZ we felt we should put it
there as well. Of all of our PCs and servers the HIP one is the only one
that periodically has "fits" and McAfee eats up all of the resources. In
other words the process takes up 99 percent of the resources and HIP cannot
run. No other server has this problem so I'm kind of convinced it has
something to do with how HIP runs. I can usually stop the McAfee process but
then something else grabs up 99% of the resources and I have to wait for
that to relinquish them, and strangely it usually does. Last week I just
uninstalled McAfee because I couldn't shake it loose. It is really getting
to be a problem but I'm sure if I logged it with SD they'd just tell me not
to put virus software on the server. I hope you have better luck with
Symantec.

It's a thankless job, but I've got a lot of Karma to burn
off!

Subject: [ipac] Antivirus software on HIP server
Does anyone have any words of wisdom or warning to offer regarding
Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10.1 (or antivirus software in
general) on a HIP 3.06a server running Windows Server 2003?
Any directories or file types to exclude from auto-protect scanning?
Any troubles with full system scans scheduled during off-peak hours?
Performance problems?
Thanks!
