[ipac] HTML email in My list

Not to beat a dead horse, but here's what we ended up putting in our FAQ
(LEONARDO is the local name for our catalog)...

I have not received email sent from LEONARDO HIP. What can I do?

Customers of some ISPs may not be able to receive email from LEONARDO HIP in
HTML format, as these messages do not conform to RFC 1738. Plain text is the
only format that is consistently accepted; it should display correctly in
any mail client. Therefore, we have attempted to restrict email coming from
HIP to that format. Due to limitations in the current software, this has not
been completely successful. Email from the full bibliographic display in HIP
will be sent in HTML format, despite the fact that "Plain text" appears to
be selected (and is, in fact, the only option). Our apologies for any
inconvenience. You may wish to add the citation to My List and email it to
yourself from there.

Some customers may find that email from LEONARDO HIP is filtered as spam. If
possible, please add SUPPORT at LINDAHALL.ORG to your list of accepted
addresses.

I chose not to tell the patron that yeah, we could let you choose for
yourself, but then you'll get a dead-end error message, or maybe no email...

Hi Anne,

Yes, it is interesting. And disappointing that our best efforts (and
hopefully those of SirsiDynix) cannot find a solution! Surely there is
something our problems have in common that would allow further research?!

We were also getting a "string index out of range error", but ours came only
when we tried to send HTML-format email from My List. Email in any other
format, and from anywhere else in HIP, did not produce that error. So,
basically the same error, just in different places.

We were also having problems receiving HTML email from HIP, on the keyword
search results summary page. That's exactly the same problem you had.

So you can see why we eventually just turned off HTML email (with minimal
success). I'll log your experience in my notes, maybe someday someone will
have an answer (aside from "it's a bug").

Hi Natasha

It is interesting how we are all running the same software, 3.08, yet our
experiences are slightly different. We have been doing some testing on our
test HIP.

In the keyword summary screen if you send an HTML email it never arrives

In the full bib screen we get an error

An error has occured

Type:ExceptionSubject:Sending of email message failed

Reason:String index out of range: -505Message:

Check SMTP server and try again

Number:106

In My List

Sending HTML internally in the university 100% of our sample arrives

Sending HTML outside the university 75% arrive, 25% disappear without
errors. This is using multiple ISPs and various browsers. There is no
pattern, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

We have HTML, text and delimited as our options.

Cheers

Anne
