[ipac] Sorts not working in HIP 4.1.a.?

I'm sure this is something I'm overlooking but I'm feeling a bit stymied
today.  Thanks for your patience and advice, oh fellow HIP sufferers.

Our sorts are not working when the user enters a Browse search (i.e.
author browse, Child, Lee).  We got to the list of entries and then
clicked on the author.  Attempts to sort the list by pub date brings us
back to a screen with the search terms and a blue line - no results
showing.

Naturally, when I tried a keyword search, the results were sorting
automatically by pub date.

Is it time to rebuild the indexes?  Or something totally different that
I'm missing?  I don't recall ever setting up a sort default for the
keyword stuff but we tend to do as little as possible with HIP to keep
it from breaking so it's possible I've blocked it out.
