JavaScript. This includes placing Requests, populating My List, viewing the
Full Bib page, and logging in to "My Account". WebTV never has provided
anything close to full JavaScript support, so the out-of-the-box HIP is
almost totally useless for WebTV patrons.

It should be possible to make an alternate set of XSL files that do not use
as much JavaScript, but it would probably not be as "full-featured". These
files could be associated with a separate profile by modifying the
xsltransformer.xml file without removing features from the other profiles.

In my opinion, all users should be able to do the basics: search, place
requests, renew materials, check their holds, and modify their account
settings and preferences.

Could we encourage Dynix to produce a simplified set of XSL files as an
add-on product similar to the Spanish or Kid's HIP? Maybe they could
combine it with the screen-reader-friendly version they claim to be working
on.

Speaking as the Devil's advocate for a moment, it's impossible to develop
software that will work in every environment... Particularly when said
environment doesn't adhere to standards. As far as I know, WebTV's browser
has never fully supported any web standards (HTML, JavaScript, etc.).
Software companies have to draw the line somewhere, and WebTV is antiquated.

What changes have made this happen? Surely we can make the XSL stylesheets
more compatible, yes?
