[ipac] Unacceptable HIP behavior

Dear All,
I just submitted a problem via Log Express:
"When a Power Search is executed with a limit, then the user tries to
apply another limit from the Search Results page, the original limit is
dropped.
Example, search for "Einstein" in general keyword and select
"Biographies" limit=11 results. Then select Limit By to "Key West
Library"=40 titles. A Power Search combining general keyword "Einstein"
+Limits "Biographies" + Location "Key West"=3 titles. "
But now I've checked a few other libraries' HIPs and find the same
problem, so it appears to be a universal HIP behavior: The original
limit applied from the Power Search page is dropped when "Limit By:" is
selected from the Search Results page.
Has anyone found a workaround for this? Or a way to explain to users why
"Limit by:" will INCREASE their Power Search results, rather than
refine.
Optional rant: These kinds of glitches drive me batty! It seems our
users need a full-day workshop to figure out our catalog. No wonder
they'd rather buy it from Amazon...
