Ouch. Sounds like sc.exe could really help you out, since it can be run 
on the command line of /your/ PC desktop to remotely check on and change 
the status of a server's services. I wrote earlier that sc is for 
Win2k3, but the MS article on it says it's multiplatform.

Use "sc /help" and "sc <option_name> /help" for full details. It's got a 
lot of options. Just to peek at the server and see which installed 
services are up or down:

sc \\PACSERVER query
