[ipac] installing HIP 3.x

Linda,
Missing index search boxes happened to us a couple of times a while
ago. Never figured out what caused it though. We fixed ours by going
to:
Setup > Library > Profiles > Tabset Indexes and User Defined Limits >
Sub-Tabs with Indexes and adding back the Search Indexes that were
somehow dropped from the Search Tabs (restart the HIP). Hope this
helps.

Subject: Re: [ipac] installing HIP 3.x
Hi there,
We have just installed HIP 3.09 on RH4 as we are moving to a new HIP
server and the install went fairly smoothly, SD did assist with any
questions we had, at no time was there a thought that this would be a
billable service. This thread has also been invaluable to us and we
thank all of you with your collective wisdom.
One problem we have run into that we cannot seem to find a solution for
is this: when we install HIP on the new server, browse searching works
but not keyword searching. When we import our HIP profiles from our
current server, the search box disappears from the main page and all
searching options, browse and keyword, disappear from the advanced
searching page. Does anyone have an idea what is happening to our
searching functions when we install our HIP profiles? We are missing
something but have not been able to figure out what. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

That would be our SD assigned customer relations manager who told us
that only SD can perform a HIP install.
But I will happily tell them that Dave Pattern says otherwise, if you
don't mind? :)
If anyone can confirm exactly which CD I want to ask them for (or send
me), that would be helpful too. I also don't understand exactly what I
_do_ with the CD on a Red Hat computer, without an installer popping up
for me when I insert the CD.
I _think_ that before we upgraded to 3.08, we ran a version identified
as "3.06A".
Yes, I'm planning on doing an install first, them moving over
ipacadmin.gdb, my xsl, and rebuilding indexes. Michael Silver gave me an
excellent run through of how to do this last week on the list, so I'm
not worried about it once I manage to get HIP installed in the first
place.
Yes, I too am pretty astounded to find out that installing HIP requires
'proprietary information' and can only be done as a billable service by
SD, when I believe that many people have done it themselves before.
"Astounded" isn't quite the right word, actually.

something, I've done the installation (Dynix UK seemed to prefer that
the customer did it, with support when requried). As for not providing
any support until you buy more hardware, that's totally disgraceful and
a sad indication of how the company is now being run (or should I say,
"run into the ground"?).

hazy -- I thought 3.06 was for Dynix Classic only?), so didn't contain
an installable version of HIP -- just a few files that needed copying
across to overwrite existing ones. From memory, the 3.04/3.06(?) CD
contained all the relevant software to install HIP and the PDF
documentation walked you through each step. I've still got our CDs and
the installation PDFs, but they're for the UK release of HIP. I'll
double-check, as I might have a 3.0x US CD (which was accidentally sent
out to some of the UK sites and caused no end of problems!)

XSL and ipacadmin.gdb files afterwards? That shouldn't be a problem --
I think I did exactly the same when we moved HIP to new server hardware
a couple of years back. If you're migrating the .gdb file and XSL, then
it shouldn't matter what you enter during the application server
installation (i.e. indexes and profile data).

copy of. Once you try the install, post any problems to the list and
I'm sure we'll be able to help you... for free ;-)
