Go, Natasha!!!
Any chance you could give them a hand with Enterprise too? :-)

Hi again all,
Just a bit more bragging... about our HIP install at http://leonardo.lindahall.org <http://leonardo.lindahall.org/> .
- I've edited the CSS used in the full bib, summary, browse, and My List so that hotlinks are consistently blue and underline and regular text is neither.
- I've cut the MARC Display link out of the left-hand column (which we have turned off now) and stuck it on the right, in small unobtrusive text.
- I moved the bib# information to the top of the full MARC display.
- I made the full bib and My List use the same variable as the summary for the email subject.
- I fixed the problem (buried in the Javascript) whereby the full bib was emailed in HTML format even when Plain Text was the only option, and it was checked.
I now wag my finger in a shaming gesture towards the programmers (SirsiDynix or outsourced?) who developed this thing. Ever heard of QA?!
And I'm done,
Natasha

By the way, in case I've forgotten, THANK YOU to the U of Chicago libraries for making your notes on editing HIP available to everyone. They were a huge help when I edited ours today.

full bib w/ the left-hand column, links somewhat consistently blue and underlined

full bib w/o the left-hand column, links somewhat consistently blue and underlined
Our third profile is the same as the second one.
I'm letting staff decide which they like. :)

Natasha,
Congratulations. We never liked the fixed elements and got rid of them almost immediately lo these many years ago. At least in our case, if you turn on the MARC Display button, it appears in the Holdings Information box on the left. As we did this only for a profile used by staff, we didn't do anything else to it. But I don't think you'll need to customize anything.
Unless I missed something over the years, the only way to add underscoring to the links is to do your own customization. You're welcome to use ours which is documented at:
http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/staffweb/depts/ils/ipac/ipac21/xslmods306.html#css
Good luck.

Subject: [HORIZON-L] MARC Display and hotlinks in HIP
Hi all,
I've finally gotten rid of the fixed elements in HIP! Staff had tired of the word "by" next to the author(s); we'd already removed it in our auction catalog display, as we didn't to show a "by" next to the auction house name. Several people wondered why Subject and Series appeared with bullet points and double-spaced. We also could not display multiple titles in the Title fixed element, such as the 880 (vernacular, e.g. Chinese character) equivalent to tag 245. Formerly, we compensated for all of this by displaying limited information with the fixed elements and then re-displaying everything below them. But this morning we decided to get rid of redundant information once and for all!
This meant we also turned off the left-hand "More" bar. So my first question, for anyone who has done this, is how hard was it to add a MARC Display link elsewhere in the XML? I've done minor edits, but for anything big I'd probably need to copy-and-paste.
My second question is have any of you changed the color of hotlinks in HIP? Or gotten them to be underlined? I noticed that they're kind of grey-blue, perhaps so as to be unobtrusive. But that, combined with the fact that they're not underlined, makes it hard to tell what's hot linked and what's not. Especially on the summary display, where all of the bibliographic information is in the same grey-blue, but only the title is hot linked.
Thanks,
Natasha
