Hi Jerry
The text I added to our login page (http://webcat.hud.ac.uk/) was all
done in the "security.xsl" file.

Subject: [ipac] Adding link to patron login
In HIP 3.09, I'd like to add a link to a custom help page near the user
login prompts (to alert users that IE Autocomplete is disabled, but
saving passwords will work in other browsers; and to remind users what
are vaild library cards in our system and the pattern for default PINs).
I've been lost in HIP 4 for three years, so many things about HIP 3 have
been forgotten. I think this would involve editing the xsl rather than
the strings, but the name of the xsl isn't obvious to me.
