It could also be his Internet Service Provider is blocking non-standard HTTP ports. Personally, I think it's more likely to be Norton, as that single product is responsible for the majority of access problems I deal with.

Subject: [ipac] patron having problems accessing port 8080

Our HIP runs on port 80 on our server http://libhip.desmoineslibrary.com/#focus <http://libhip.desmoineslibrary.com/#focus> . Our community information module runs on the same server using port 8080: http://libhip.desmoineslibrary.com:8080/#focus <http://libhip.desmoineslibrary.com:8080/#focus> . We have an out of town patron who cannot access the community information module page. He has Norton Internet Security, but has worked with them, and they say they are not blocking access to port 8080. He has no problem accessing the regular catalog. What else could be causing a block to port 8080 on his computer? Everyone else seems to be able to access it just fine.

Advice appreciated!

Dawn
