REFERENCE LIBRARIAN	

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Brevard Campus, 
Cocoa, Florida is accepting applications for a full-time 
Reference Librarian position. The UCF Brevard Campus 
collections are located in the Brevard Community 
College/UCF Joint Use Libraries in Cocoa and Palm
Bay through a partnership agreement with Brevard 
Community College (BCC). Information resources are 
accessible through WebLuis, the State University online 
system, and the community college online catalog,
LINCCWeb. The main library in Orlando, has a collection 
of 1.3 million volumes and is a partial depository for U.S 
and Florida documents and U.S. patents. The Orlando 
library materials budget is $5.0 million. The BCC/UCF 
Joint Libraries in Cocoa and Palm Bay offer a combined
collection of more than 110,000 volumes and a budget of 
approximately $100.000. 

General Description:  The UCF Brevard Reference 
Librarians are located
at UCF's branch campuses in Cocoa and Palm Bay and 
report to the
Brevard Campus Associate Director for Library and 
Administrative
Services. Library faculty participate in reference, 
collection
development, and library instruction activities as part of a 
team of
seven (7) professional librarians in a joint facility 
representing
UCF, BCC, and the Florida Solar Energy Center.  UCF's 
branch campus
librarians are employees of the University of Central 
Florida and as
such are entitled to all benefits available to state 
employees.

Both Cocoa and Palm Bay, Florida are located in Florida's 
"Space
Coast" near Cape Canaveral, the Kennedy Space Center 
and the Merritt
Island National Wildlife Refuge. Less than an hour's drive 
to Orlando
and it's attractions, Brevard County offers cultural and 
recreational
opportunities as well as volunteer and professional 
organizations.

Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include 
participation in a
full range of reference, library instruction, and collection
development duties in a fast-paced partnership and 
branch campus
environment with numerous print and electronic 
reference, document
delivery, and interlibrary loan resources.  It is currently 
envisioned
that this position will be 60% at the Palm Bay Campus 
and 40% at the
Cocoa Campus (with some weekends/evenings), but is 
subject to change. 
Some travel to Orlando will be required.

Qualifications Required: an ALA accredited MLS by 
August 7, 2002.
Preferred Experience: Knowledge of, and willingness to 
work with,
automated reference sources in a variety of formats.  A 
commitment to
learn and use emerging technologies.  The ability to 
manage diverse
assignments.  The desire to participate actively in a 
dynamic
instruction program with experience in preparation of 
instructional
materials or tutorials. A commitment to public service 
and information
literacy.  Experience or understanding of branch campus 
and/or
partnership environments and distance learning 
librarianship;
candidates with community college library experience 
are welcome to
apply.  A record of professional library activities.  
Flexibility and
strong interpersonal, team, and communication skills.

Salary and Rank: Salary commensurate with experience 
and
qualifications. This is a full-time non-tenure track faculty 
position
with benefits including health insurance and retirement 
options.
