MAJOR DUTIES:     

This position serves as Librarian-in-Charge for all day-to-day activities in
the Patient¹s Library of the James A, Haley VA Medical Center in Tampa, FL.
The major duties of this position include the following:

    * Using knowledge of research theory and techniques and skill in
identifying areas where research and program development are needed.
    * Serving as searcher for computer literature searches, medical and
consumer health automated data systems which involve searching through and
locating information contained in books, journals, and government
publications.
    * Developing the monographic, serial, reference, and audiovisual
software Patient Health Education collection, evaluating materials for
document authority, reading levels, and integration into ongoing Patient
Health Education programs at the facility.
    * Instructing medical, allied health, administrative staff, trainees,
students, and patients in the proper use of the Patients Library (and of the
Medical Library, as needed) including programs, resources and services.
    * Knowledgeable and skilled in all areas of Library and Information
Science.
    * Planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising the
Patient Health Education and other support programs offered through the
Patients Library.
    * Participating as an active member of interdisciplinary hospital-wide
patient and staff education by serving as resource specialist as well as
other duties such as chairing the Resource Subcommittee of the PHE
Committee.
    * Designing, directing, and monitoring a patient education materials
program encompassing the identification, selection, acquisition,
arrangement, maintenance and dissemination of health and disease information
and training materials required to support all hospital patient health
education programs.
    * Developing Library manuals, publicity, and educational handouts for
Medical Center use.
    * Serving as technical expert to library staff and patrons for
computer/software issues as well as for other library equipment.
    * Utilized knowledge of patient education concepts, including
instructional methods, instructional materials, readability formulas, and
skill in utilizing this knowledge in providing appropriate patient education
materials on a wide variety of diseases and medical conditions, as well as
various therapies and rehabilitation strategies.

Tour of duty: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
