MLC Funding In Jeopardy - Contacts Needed Immediately (by 6 p.m.)!

The House and Senate Transportation and Economic Development (TED) Appropriations Conference Committee is working out the differences between the House and Senate Budgets.  In order for the Library Cooperative Grant Program to receive any funding next year, the Senate Conferees will have to accept the House position when the committee re-convenes this afternoon at 6:15.

Action Needed - Please contact Senate Members of the Transportation and Economic Development (TED) Appropration Subcommittee.  The list below identifies' the areas members serve and provides their phone numbers and e-mail addresses.  The best thing to do is call their Tallahassee offices and talk with staff.

The Message - Please accept the House position for funding the Library Cooperative program at $1.2 million (Line 3086A).  Without this funding, several of the 6 Cooperatives will go out of business.

Background - The Library Cooperative Grant Program is a major source of funding for Florida's 6 Multitype Library Cooperatives (MLCs).  The library cooperatives have already taken a 40% cut in funding in the 2008 -2009 budget, causing all of them to lay off people and to dip into reserves.  Some of the cooperatives have used all of their reserves.
