TBLC Workshop Announcement 

Asian Pop Culture Invasion!

Anime, Manga, Inuyasha, Fruits Basket, Pocky, Otaku, Akihabara. Ever
wondered what the heck all those teens are talking about in your
library, school, or home? Lucky you, there is now an opportunity to
learn the meaning of all these words and more. Your esteemed presenter,
Paul Stonebridge, experienced traveler and Asian culture guru, will take
you on a journey of exploration into the mysterious world of the
Japanese pop culture phenomenon.

In this session, you will be given a basic overview of Japanese and
Asian life and culture, from Pocky to Pokemon, manga to miso soup; learn
why Japan is so appealing to America's modern youth; understand a little
about the terms and concepts of this multinational cultural explosion;
gain some insight into the minds and hearts of teens and young adults;
even pick up a bit of Japanese to dazzle your friends and coworkers. The
class comes complete with a digital photo presentation for all the
visual learners out there.

This class is for anyone who feels the need to better understand
Japanese and Asian culture, life, icons, symbols, food, and influence.
Whether you work with the young adult crowd and need to seem a little
bit more in the know or you just want to broaden your cultural horizons,
you are guaranteed to walk away enlightened. Heck, you will even get
fed, with a selection of Japanese pop culture foods available for your
snacking (and learning) enjoyment.

Finally, the next time someone mentions Japan you will be able to stand
up proudly and proclaim "Wakarimasu!" (I Understand!)
