Project Management Basics for Overworked Library Managers


How to get work done on time, under budget, at an agreed upon quality
and with everyone still speaking.

Everything is a project in a library, from the endless cycles of
processing books to complex reference interviews to creating a new web
site to moving the entire library to a new building? The problem is that
many good managers rely too much on casual conversations in hallways,
cryptic e-mails and staff meeting lectures for communication. Also, they
assume good employees don't need supervision and indifferent employees
are hopeless.

Instead, learn some of the practical techniques that really do work to
keep projects on track without micromanagement or nagging. Learn to rely
on short written agreements, real deadlines, and clear and specific
