TBLC Workshop Announcement 

Do patrons come to you for help with their resumes, portfolios, or other
job-seeking tools? These four courses will teach you to help your
patrons create a powerful skills portfolio, write a professional resume,
prepare for an interview, and conduct an online job search.

Creating a Skills Portfolio
February 2, 2010 (9 a.m. to noon) 

This course will help you teach your job-seeking patrons one of four
important steps to finding a job: how to create a skills portfolio. 

Different from a resume, a skills portfolio allows job seekers to
present a unique image of their experience drawn from some of the best
examples of their previous work. This course covers the steps to
preparing an attention-grabbing portfolio and the best technique for
presenting it during an interview. Also included is how to develop an
electronic portfolio.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program, you will be able to help your patrons: 
* Understand the importance of a skills portfolio 
* Identify ways to sell themselves 
* Create and use their portfolios

Essentials of Interviewing: Preparing for the Interview and Beyond
February 2, 2010 (1 to 4 p.m.)

This course will help you teach your job-seeking patrons one of four
important steps to finding a job: how to conduct an interview. 

In today's market place, trends, organizational changes and
responsibilities, increase in production and growth creates the need to
find competent and trainable people. This increases the demand for
quality candidates. Learn insider information that you can share with
your patrons on how to develop successful interviewing techniques.
You'll take away tips on do's and don'ts of interviews, including how to
avoid common interview-related mistakes. 

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program, you will be able to help your patrons:
* Win in the interview 
* Answer difficult questions 
* Move past the phone call 
* Understand the employer's perspective

Resume Writing & Critiques
March 9, 2010 (9 a.m. to noon)

This course will help you teach your job-seeking patrons one of four
important steps to finding a job: writing a professional resume. 

Learn a systematic approach - that you can share with your patrons - to
developing and presenting effective, eye-catching resumes. Through this
course, you will excel at several different resume approaches, including
chronological, work experience, and subject-related resumes. Bring this
knowledge back to your patrons! 

Attendees, please bring five hard copies of any sample resume to
critique. 

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program, you will be able to:
* Describe to your patrons the purpose of a resume 
* Help your patrons create a professional resume 
* Help your patrons understand resume differences

The Job Search

 March 9, 2010 (1 to 4 p.m.)

This course will help you teach your job-seeking patrons one of four
important steps to finding a job: how to search for a job on the
internet. 

Never before has the workplace changed as rapidly or as dramatically as
it is changing today. This course teaches attendees the ins and outs of
web-based job searching, including where to find job listings,
networking, using a headhunter and more advice on where and how to find
a job. Share this useful information with your patrons to help them find
the right job.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program, you will be able to help your patrons: 
* Identify appropriate job search and networking websites 
* Conduct a job search 
* Effectively use personal resume websites
